Still ironing out the issues, but getting closer - 2/7/2012 10:30:39 PM While we continue to iron out the bugs and issues on the site, we're getting closer to being done with the mechanics, and now just polishing the finish. We've solved one issue that was reporting incorrect number of sessions online, and also adding too many loads of user info, thus causing db connectivity issues. Now, we're just ironing out the css mess in the new directory layout and other eye pleasing aspects such as menu layouts. The next round of changes will take place at the patrol level, giving patrol leaders more tools to manage their patrol outtings, and individual patrol leader duties. Stay tuned. We are now, completely compatible. The new additions for inserting photos and images in the news stories is coming as well, which will make updates SUPER easy. One for compatibility with more browsers, including better compatibility with the ever popular FireFox and some editor compatibility with Safari. Sorry, but I don't know if we'll ever be 100% with Safari as Safari doesn't seem to want to follow css conventions. The second, and more important change is the security update. Encryption on the site, including the encryption used for your password storage on your pc cookie for auto login has been upgraded to be about 1000 times more secure. Blake Island Outting a Success, Despite Torrential Downpour - 9/21/2010 3:13:44 PM Our Blake Island outting was a success, despite the downpour overnight. The weather was sunny and warm when we left the dock in West Seattle, with many asking if we had dressed for the wrong weather! It was warm and nearly 68 degrees. The boat showed and we loaded inbetween the West Seattle Foot Ferry schedule.
 The rides there and back were very smooth. Our biggest issue were the 200 racoons that tried to raid our camp consistantly during the evening and late night. This, along with the newly formed creek that passed through our camp, added to the fun for the overnight.
 Thanks to Mr. Dennis who organized our transportation through his friends in the miltary who ferried us back and forth.

Web-Site Fixed for Photo Uploads - 9/20/2010 10:42:28 PM Some parents alerted me to the web-site not allowing some to upload photos of our events.
I have fixed the photo upload issue, and the site should be working just fine. I am still seeing issues with adding descriptions on the photos, but this will be fixed very soon. It DOES NOT INTERFERE WITH UPLOADING PHOTOS TO THE ALBUMS THOUGH.
Also, it has come up again about our policy for photos regarding our troop. Here are the main issues that come up and what I have been directed by the board on how to handle the photos.
Q) Why can't ANYONE view the photos when they are not logged into the site?
A) The board has determined that in this age of privacy gone amuck, the troop will do its best to provide some level of privacy on the photos by requiring users to be logged in when viewing the photos. In other words, not a member of the troop, then you cannot view the photos. My only caveat I saw on this was not being able to share photos with family members who are not members, and of course, we cannot use the photos to "promote" the troop to new or incoming cub scouts on our activities. The details of these items are still being worked out between our scout master and webmaster.
Q) I want to be able to download the photos and print them out. The resolution is too low to print the photos!!
A) From the beginning, this has not been the primary function of the web-site and its photo gallery. The photos are here are an archive of events and some of the fun and work we have done as a troop. In a world which is moving towards paperless methods, storing the items in a large enough format to enable high resolution prints does two things. 1) The photos in question on some of these new cameras are stored at almost 5-8 megabytes per photo. This is not a friendly size for downloading from a browser while navigating through the images. 2) Printing photos is not very green so let's take a step towards being more environmentally conscious. 3) Storage space for all these photos along with bandwidth consumption would put us over the top at any service, and right now, the troop pays NOTHING for the website. Adding a cost to support these larger files would not be offset, especially since so few people want to print them off and the amount of work and resources that would be needed would cost much more than the payback in getting it done.
My short answer to this would be to ask the uploader of the photo if you can get a direct, printable copy if you are scrap booking or need one for your records.
Q) I have tried to upload photos, but just can't. It won't let me or the interface doesn't come up to upload the photos through?
A) A few things must be enabled for this to work. 1) JAVA must be installed and functional on your pc and browser. To do this, go to java.com and download java from SUN Microsystems. Then, make sure java and javascript is enabled in your browser. 2) If you get a prompt to install the jumploader applet, this should only happen once, and the next time you come back, it'll already be there and load much quicker. This system automatically resizes the photos for you BEFORE you upload. So, you can drag and drop 100 photos and send them to us in a couple minutets instead of waiting 3 hours to upload full-sized, full-resolution photos to the site which would be too big and slow
to view properly anyway. 3) You must have an account on the site and be logged in to upload photos. Please check with Chris Meyers or our Registrar to ensure your account has been added or in some cases, EDITED to update to new information as need be.

Campout Sept 18-19 Blake Island - 9/6/2010 9:55:38 AM The troop's next campout will be Sept 18-19 to Blake Island. Permissions slips are due by the Sept 13 meeting. We will be traveling to Blake Island by landing craft and staying at the state park. Philmont Scout Ranch July 29 - August 14 - 7/13/2010 5:03:03 PM Nine scouts and three adults will be attending Philmont Scout Ranch. Their trip wiil include biking, river rafting and hiking 80 + miles. Camp Parsons July 25-31 - 6/18/2010 11:07:04 AM The troop is attending Camp Parsons July 25 -31. There will be 33 boys at summer camp and 2 scouts attending the high adventure hiking program. Website is operational - 10/5/2008 12:17:27 AM The troop will begin using this website to put out information for members to review. Peter Richards has done an outstanding job is getting this out.
